The Flying Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday night kicked off their quest for 8th African title with a 2-0 defeat over Burundi in Niger.
The opening game victory at the 2019 U-20 African Cup of Nations (U-20 AFCON) was what the Flying Eagles glamoured for as they dominated the whole game.
Alhassan had the first chance to give the Flying Eagles an early lead with just 4 minutes on the clock but his headed effort was poor and was saved by the Burundi Goalie.
55 minutes on the clock, Yahaya Nazifi put the Flying Eagles ahead with a header from very close range to the bottom left corner, assisted by Ibrahim Abubakar with a cross.
71 minutes on, Effiom Maxwell doubled the lead for Nigeria from close range. He cleverly beats off a defender, and slots in from a tight angle.
Ibrahim Alhassan with the assist as Effiom’s right footed shot from a difficult angle cruised to the top right corner of the post.
The Flying Eagles will be looking to book a place at the World Cup in Poland
