Immediately, I felt some kind of excitement in me, not just because FireBoy is one of my favourites but also because of my curiosity to see how he is going to move ahead after delivering an outstanding LTG album few months ago.
Pakam!… I downloaded the song… Plugged in my ear piece and waited few seconds before I hit the play icon on my phone.
“Fine girl from New York cityyyy, i don’t mind if you gimme chance”…. Can I have just one more dance, 💃🏽 before you leave for the summer”…chai! the song serenades into my ears, body and soul. I just can’t help but smile like a fat kid who just discovered a bowl of cake.
After listening to the song like 8 times and adjusting my sitting positions on my bed like 5 times, I concluded that “New York City girl” by Fireboy is going to be a HIT!! But a diffrent kind of HIT.
I mean, from the title of the song “New york city girl” one can tell that the song isn’t targeted at the Nigerian/African market. It’s targeted at the foreign market.
Fireboy’s team are very smart and they don’t make weak moves with his career. If you ask me, I will say it that New York City girl is a song planned to break Fireboy more into the US market and from the look of things, it will probably work out.
The sound is clean, fresh and catchy and Fireboy’s vocals blend perfectly with the Instrumentals, this will get lovers drooling over themselves.
Knowing fully well that the acceptance of music as evolved and that music streaming is the future. Fireboy’s new single is just a total of 2:21 minutes. This puts it in a great position of being streamed multiple times on all media platforms, another calculated move.
What about the video? Well, the video confirms it too. The colourful set up, the New York street lights, the occasional noise of plane taking off ✈ expressions and it’s foreign feel confirms it that this is for the foreign market.
To wrap it up, it’s worthy of note that the song title “New York City girl” to me is somewhat similar to Wizkid’s “London Girl” back in 2012. At that time, Wizkid was already popular in Nigeria and fairly known outside the country, but this song helped him break boundaries into the UK market.
Looks like some throw back strategy you know.
Now, I might be talking in the rubbish or even saying the sense from the nonsense, but one thing is sure, Fireboy DML is a great talent and his music will be here for a very long time. Thank you.
