An unidentified middle-aged man has fallen into a coma and is currently battling for his life following several punches and serial assault by enforcement officers attached to the Umuahia North Covid-19 protocol enforcement team.
According to reports, the victim, commercial tricycle operator is popularly known as KeKe, got to a checkpoint opposite the General Post office in the capital city, and was stopped by the task force officers.
During a check, one of the taskforce discovered that a passenger in the tricycle was not wearing the mandatory face mask.
The passenger was asked to put on her face mask and they went ahead to attack the Keke rider for carrying a passenger allegedly violating COVID-19 safety protocol. While the officers directed the Keke operator to take the vehicle to the local council headquarters but decided to punch him on the face because of his reluctant-ness to do as instructed before the victim lost his balance and slumped lifelessly on the road.
After seeing that the victim was not regaining consciousness, the passersby became violent and insisted that the task force staff single-handedly convey his victim to the hospital, but the task force officer was able to the angry crowd as he took to his heels and ran into the council headquarters.
