An unfortunate fire incident has occurred at City Furniture market, a section of the Kugbo Furniture market, in Abuja, were good worth over millions of Naira was razed down by fire.
According to reports, the fire engulfed 39 shops and furniture worth over 21 million have been razed down by the inferno, the fire was said to have started around some minutes after midnight, when traders had all closed for day from the market.
The incident was made known to some affected furniture makers and owners by the guards on duty whom alerted them about the fire.
The Chairman of the City Furniture section of the market, Mr. Austin Onuh, stated that the fire occurred on around midnight when all shop owners had closed for the day.
Mr. Onuh was also a victim, expressed his regrets , as most of the furniture which was engulfed by fire were purchased on contract by their customers.
In a statement, he stated that;
“We are yet to determine the cause of the inferno but furniture worth over N 21 million naira have been burnt by the fire.
“Some of us here just returned from Christmas and New Year celebrations, and started work that our customers gave us, but this morning we only came to see ashes,” he said.
As chairman Onuh appeals for help from the FCT administration, spirited individuals and corporate organisations to support them.
He also called on the government to help the furniture makers provide measures that will prevent fire incidents in the area.
The inferno not only destroyed furniture, but also machines, generators and other equipment worth millions of Naira, despite the help and efforts made by men of the fire service, the fire condition was not salvageable.
