Atletico Madrid on Thursday defeated Arsenal 3-1 on penalties during their International Champions Cup game.

Luciano Vietto opened scoring for the Spanish side, just five minutes before end of first half. A free kick was taken quickly and worked over to Correa, who rounds Holding and sets up Vietto to beat Leno with a bullet header.

Arsenal equalized after a brilliant drive from 17-year-old Smith Rowe who scored his first ever senior goal with a thumping strike from the edge of the penalty area. Adan couldn’t stop that from entering.

It all boiled down on penalties after 90 minutes and Arsenal’s young guns failed to fire in the penalty shoot-out, though, with Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah missing their spot-kicks along with Henrikh Mkhitaryan as Atletico triumphed 3-1.

Emery gave valuable minutes to new additions Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos in a side that blended youth and experience, with Alexandre Lacazette looking sharp as he prepared to continue the good form he enjoyed in 2017-18.
