A seemingly depressed man who on Tuesday the 25th of June 2019, dived into the Lagos lagoon with the sole aim of killing himself was rescued and saved from the cold hands of death.
The yet-to-be-identified man allegedly jumped into the lagoon from the third mainland bridge in an attempt to take his life, but his efforts were thwarted as he was saved in the nick of time by the Lagos State Waterways Authority in Lagos.
The incident attracted the attention of passersby who took the time to get a glimpse of the situation, while the Lagos state police and medical authority did everything they could to save the individual from his suicide attempt.
Unfortunately this is currently one of the easiest way to commit suicide especially in the state of Lagos where the number of people jumping into the Lagoon has gone up in the last couple of years; more than ever before there is an urgent need for an increase in Mental health awareness programs not just in Lagos but across the country.
People need to learn how to take care of their mental health and the general public need to know that it is not something to joke about.
Thanks to the Lagos state waterways authority for saving another life and putting to good use the resources at their disposal together with working hard to reduce the statistics but again we need to do more to curb this alarming trend that has taken hold of our society.
