Following the action of Betnaija refusing to appear before the Senate, they face a shutdown if they fail to appear before the senate after a second invitation was issued.
The Chairman, Senate committee on youth and sport, Senator Obinna Ogba, PDP, Ebonyi, said this in Abuja during the verification of Lotto companies with license to operate in Nigeria as he mentioned that it was unfortunate that Bet9ja refused to honour their invitation, Vanguard reports.
He therefore instructed the clerk of the house to write to the betting company once again
“Clerk, write to Bet9ja again. If they did not honour your our invitation again, we will ask the National Lottery Commission to seal their offices.”
Whereas we are making these efforts in order to assist the lottery commission to generate fund for the Federal Government, said Senator Ogba.
He further reiterated that:
“We wanted to see bet9ja. They can’t runaway,”
According to Senator Ogba, their verification followed series of complains against the betting companies, while some do not even have offices and poor remittance was made to the government.
Just about 20 betting companies have honoured the Senate invitation while few of these ones got the licences but fail to operate.
Whereas the new regulations permits them to start operation within one year.
