Motorists and residents of Abuja were left with a broken spirit yesterday after a clash between PDP and APC supporters in Deidei area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The fight broke out at Deidei market, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi had finished his campaign rally for the 2019 general elections and had left the market to another location for the same purpose.
Hitvibz gathered from an eyewitness, Mr. Patrick Onuorah, that some APC supporters who had gone for a campaign rally at Karu had series of fight leading to road block where the PDP Vice presidential candidate had finished his own campaign.
The incident triggered the supporters of the PDP into reacting thereby resulting to a confrontation between both parties, leading to a fight.
“the APC supporters were coming from a campaign they had in Karu and they were fighting among their selves. Because of that they block the market road and the PDP supporters were not able to leave, so they started fighting especially the igbos boys who have shops in Deidei market came out in mass to fight them”
It was also gathered that the PDP Vice Presidential candidate had left the venue before the fight broke out.
A lot of cars were destroyed in the process and people were injured.
Mr. Peter Obi in the early hours of Sunday morning took to his Twitter page to react to the incident.
“Following the departure of my team from Dei-Dei market, I’ve gotten reports of unprovoked attack on supporters of PDP who overwhelmingly turned up to welcome us. I would like to appeal to everyone for calm even at this critical time.”
