The Blues celebrated Mikel’s first Premier League goal in 2013 after seven years in Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea wrote on its twitter page:
“Seven years of waiting, and then this. On this day in 2013, Mikel John Obi scored his first Premier League goal.”
Mikel on Saturday, September 21, 2013, scored his first ever English Premier League goal for his London club, Chelsea, after 185 games and seven years for the Blues.
With Jose Mourinho in charge as coach, Mikel scored to double Chelsea’s lead in the 84th minute in the game against Fulham at the Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea fans will obviously remember this day always but just after leaving Stamford Bridge, Mikel went on to score two more goals in the Chinese Super League with his second coming as Tianjin Teda fought back to seal a 2-1 win over Guangzhou R&F.
Mikel, who retired from international football at the age of 32 surpassed his goal record in the English Premier League – where he notched just a goal in 249 league appearances for Chelsea.
