The Blues are about to lose their first-team fitness coach Chris Jones, who is set to become Frank Lampard’s Head of Performance at Derby County.
The duo worked closely together when Lampard played for the Blues. Former teammate and now former U18 head coach Jody Morris already joined to become assistant manager and fitness coach Chris Jones is about to follow, too, to become the Rams’ “Head of Performance”.

Jones, 47, first moved to Stamford Bridge in 2006 from neighbouring Fulham, and has served as head first-team fitness coach since 2012, when he replaced Jose Mario Rocha, who was sacked alongside Andre Villas-Boas. The Englishman has also worked under Roberto di Matteo, Rafa Benitez, Guus Hiddick.
He stayed in the role even as Jose Mourinho returned (along with Rui Faria) and even as Antonio Conte brought in his cadre of fitness and nutrition gurus. Jones has undoubtedly acquired invaluable experience working alongside all those experts, which he will now put to great use at Derby.
Derby’s preseason begins on Friday, so Jones’s move should be made officially official shortly. We wish him and SuperFrank and the Morris kid all the best of luck!
