Chelsea have offered N’Golo Kanté a new contract worth nearly £290,000 a week, which would make him the club’s best-paid player. They have acted to deter interest from Paris Saint-Germain in the midfielder who impressed at the World Cup, where he helped France to lift the trophy.
Kanté has been offered a five-year deal worth up to £15 million a season, which roughly doubles his present wage and would take him above Eden Hazard who is Chelsea’s top earner on £220,000 a week.
While Hazard is at the ideal time for a contract extension, with two years left to run on his current deal, Kanté is actually ahead of schedule. His current contract has three years left and normally a new deal would not be offered until next year. But these are special circumstances.
The Blues will not allow Kanté to leave for France and the 27-year-old has not asked to go. He helped Chelsea to win the Premier League title in his first season after joining for around £30 million from Leicester City two years ago.
