Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea is the first side in the 21st century to win a major Europa League without losing a game from group stage to final (W12 D3 L0) since Manchester United won the 2007-08 Champions League unbeaten.
You have to take your hat off for him.
Only three teams in the 21st century have won a European title without losing a single game during the campaign:
2007-08: Manchester United
Sarri won 39 matches in all competitions for Chelsea this season – the only manager to ever win more in his first season in charge of Chelsea was José Mourinho in the 2004-05 (42 wins).
Pedro, who scored the second goal for the Blues became the fifth player to score in a European Cup/Champions League and UEFA Cup/Europa League final, after Allan Simonsen, Hernan Crespo, Dmitri Alenichev and Steven Gerrard.
Meanwhile, Eden Hazard is the first player to score a brace in the final of a major UEFA competition for an English club since Mark Hughes for Manchester United against Barcelona in the 1991 Cup Winners’ Cup final.
