Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea is the first side in the 21st century to win a major Europa League without losing a game from group stage to final (W12 D3 L0) since Manchester United won the 2007-08 Champions League unbeaten.
You have to take your hat off for him.
Only three teams in the 21st century have won a European title without losing a single game during the campaign:
2007-08: Manchester United
Sarri won 39 matches in all competitions for Chelsea this season – the only manager to ever win more in his first season in charge of Chelsea was José Mourinho in the 2004-05 (42 wins).
Pedro, who scored the second goal for the Blues became the fifth player to score in a European Cup/Champions League and UEFA Cup/Europa League final, after Allan Simonsen, Hernan Crespo, Dmitri Alenichev and Steven Gerrard.
Meanwhile, Eden Hazard is the first player to score a brace in the final of a major UEFA competition for an English club since Mark Hughes for Manchester United against Barcelona in the 1991 Cup Winners’ Cup final. He scored 20 goals for Chelsea in all competitions in 2018-19, his best return in a single campaign for the Blues.
