FIFA have confirmed the nomination of Belgian and Chelsea star man, Eden Hazard for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2018 award.
The Belgian features among the nominees for the award and will be up against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as he bids to lift the award.
Kevin De Bruyne, Antoine Griezmann, Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric, Mohamed Salah and Raphael Varane have also been nominated for the award for the period of 3 July 2017-15 July 2018.
Hazard is one of three Premier League players nominated, alongside Liverpool’s Salah and Manchester City’s De Bruyne.
Despite Chelsea’s struggles in the Premier League last season, Hazard impressed domestically and went on to shine for Belgium at the World Cup in Russia and was among the contenders to be named as the Player of the Tournament.
Under Roberto Martinez, Hazard played a key role in helping Belgium finish third in the tournament, the highest finish in the country’s history.
The winger, who wasn’t Chelsea’s best player last season but has been deemed worthy of nomination for FIFA’s award, which probably counts in his performances (and captaincy) for the Belgian national team as well is unlikely to win with the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Salah and Mbappe on the list but the nomination itself is a nice enough accomplishment already.
