The Blues are pleased to announce three European International Champions Cup fixtures ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, including a game against Lyon at the Bridge on Tuesday 7 August.
Previous plans had Chelsea traveling to Australia, then to Sweden, and then back home for the Community Shield against the champions Manchester City. While most of the teams on the schedule remain the same, the venues have changed drastically.
Chelsea will still begin preseason Down Under with the friendly against Perth Glory in their new stadium on July 23 — this had been set for a long time and not part of the International Champions Cup, so this was not affected by the ICC’s scheduling issues.
The FA Cup winners will compete for the fifth time in the International Champions Cup, but for the first time in Europe, with Yokohama becoming an official partner of the competition in 2018.
Their European games begin in southern France where we meet Inter Milan at Nice’s Allianz Riviera Stadium on Saturday 28 July.
A local derby with a twist follows that as the Blues take on Premier League rivals Arsenal at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Wednesday 1 August.
Chelsea will begin the new season the weekend with a gane against Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday 5 August before concluding their pre-season fixtures on Tuesday 7 August when they host Lyon at Stamford Bridge.
The final (?) pre-season schedule is as follows:
July 23: vs. Perth Glory (Perth, Australia)
July 28: vs. Internazionale (Nice, France)
August 1: vs. Arsenal (Dublin, Republic of Ireland)
August 5: vs. Manchester City (Wembley)
August 7: vs. Lyon (Stamford Bridge)
Meanwhile, Chelsea will kick off the 2018/19 Premier League season with a trip to Huddersfield Town before hosting Arsenal in their first home game of the campaign as the League fixtures has been released.
