Agagowei was among the 105 councillors who were elected during the August 2019 local government council election.
The gunmen were said to have waylaid Agagowei near Opolo area of Yenagoa, the state capital on Saturday while he was returning from the ward congress of the Peoples Democratic Party.
It was gathered that he died shortly after he was rushed to two hospitals in Yenagoa but was not treated due to the absence of a police report.

Eyewitnesses said another person who was with the deceased in a commercial tricycle at the time of the incident, was also attacked with machetes by the hoodlums but escaped with wounds.
