Nigerians have reacted to the statement made by Wife of billionaire businessman and Microsoft founder, Melinda Gates, who while addressing the African community, warned about the deadly effects of the virus on the continent, stating that dead bodies will be littered all over the streets of Africa.
The statement was made by Melinda Gate, while addressing the African community on the effect of the coronavirus disease in the third world countries via CNN.
She further stated that her heart was in Africa, and she is worried that the continent might not be able to handle the devastating effect of the virus.
“It’s going to be horrible in the developing world.
“Part of the reasons you are seeing the case numbers still do not look very bad, is because they don’t have access to many tests.
She added that in places like Ecuador, they are experiencing litters of dead bodies on the streets, she fears same scenario is likely going to be seen in countries in Africa.
Her worries is owning to the fact that the Africa community don’t have good health care systems and the lack of humanitarian supports in the continent.
She also pointed out that, unlike China who were able to build isolation centers to isolate a large number of their population, same can not be said for the Africa continent as people live in slums were social distancing can’t be observed due to their population.
Nigerians, however, have reacted to the statement made by Melinda Gates, stating that the African people will overcome the pandemic.
With some back lashing her, making statements like ; ‘back to sender’, wish you what you wish Africa, adding that Africa is capable of handling any form of disease, adding that even before the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, their ancestors had been treating various forms of aliment.
While other are of the opinion that the Africa continent should take heed to her warnings and do the needful and that people should read and understand the meaning of her message before crucifying her.
