Back to Back winners of the Carabao Cup, Manchester City began their defence against Preston North End on Tuesday night in the Deepdale Stadium.
Raheem Sterling returned to the side and returned with a bang in the 19th minute, after a pass by Eric Garcia was laid off to the English man who sprinted past three Preston Defenders as he rifled a shot which was deflected thus flying past the goalkeeper to put City a goal up.
35 minutes into the game and City were 2 goals up as Sterling turned provider as his pass fell directly for Gabriel Jesus who made no mistake in slotting in the ball to the back of the net with a low finish.
Not even half time, City were cruising with their third goal coming in the 45th minute just before the break as Sterling and David Silva linked up inside the penalty area, as the Skipper tried picking out his teammates but unlucky Ledson slides in and blocks it but a miss kick saw it ending up at the back of the net, Half time and City led 3-0.
City weren’t able to add to the first half scoreline but the 3-0 victory was enough for the Holders to march to the next round.
