I read an interview of Reminisce by Joey Akan, one of the most skilled Music writer in Nigeria and after I finished reading it, one thing stuck with me.
That thing is called SACRIFICE
SACRIFICE back into your craft.
At the begining of the Afrobeats Intelligence interview, Reminisce talked about his struggle as an emerging artiste trying to break through to stardom.
He talked about how everyone blew up before him, how much emotional strength it took for him to not give up and how he and Sarz on the beat” took a risk with his career by making his first hit single “Kako bi chicken”.
So it’s 2013, Reminisce now has a break out single “Kako bi chicken” and he just dropped his “star supported” album titled ALAGA IBILE.
The album picked immediately, selling hundreds of thousands of copies in it’s first few weeks and resulting into multiple bookings for performance from the Rapper.
At this point, It was safe to say that Remilekun Safaru aka Reminisce is now balling and established.
But there’s one thing you should know as an emerging artiste.
At the height of this intial success, Reminisce SACRIFICED all the monetary gains of the songs and album sales back to make the videos of all the songs on the album…
“There was no song on that album we didn’t shoot video for, from Eleniyan ft Wizkid, to Daddy mi ft Davido, Fantasi etc…. We shoot for everything. All the money back in the album,” Reminisced said.
Now you can go ahead and say, “well that one is normal now….Shey he won’t shoot video for the songs before ni” But I’d urge you not to look at it from that angle.
See, for an artiste who has a lot of responsibilities, whose stardom took time to achieve…. Countless of artiste in his shoes back then would have gone on a roller coaster of parties, balling with the monetary gains, thinking they’ve arrived.
Even artiste that’s yet to make it, a little money from events like this, it’s for balling. Which is wrong.
Dear artiste, emulate the act of SACRIFICING back into your craft, there will be enough time and money💰 to flex later when you’re well grounded in the music industry.
Thank you
