Barely 24 hours into the first day of July, the month has already claimed some lives at Gwer local government area in Benue state.
Over 50 people lost their lives in an accident at Ahumbe village in Gwer local government area of Benue state after a tanker which was transporting petrol to another location exploded and killed many in the late hour of Monday 1st July 2019.
Hitvibz gathered that the tanker which was filled up with petrol had an accident at the Ahumbe village road when it was coming from Aliade town, which attracted locals who immediately started scooping the leaking petrol from the overturned tanker.
It was in that time that the tanker exploded and engulfing many around the tanker and burning many to death.
According to the Gwer East Local Government Information Officer, Christopher Avi, the confirmed number of deaths in the accident has risen to 50, while 70 others sustained major injuries and have been rushed to four different hospitals for treatment.
