Pictures circulating online of a flooded Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja Nigeria.
The International Airport which is located at Airport road Abuja was on Thursday, flooded with water after the capital city experienced a heavy downpour in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The sight of the Airport after the rain is what one can tag as an embarrassing situation for the country – that the Airport is the first place a foreigner who might be visiting Nigeria for the first time would see awful sight and no doubt can give a very bad impression of the country to this foreigner.
It is sad that we have gotten to a stage where, lack of maintenance results to a national and international embarrassment.
It is one thing to splash millions of naira on infrastructure like airports and sea ports, roads and Government buildings.
when we build things that are as important to the tourism sector of our economy such as asana airport, we don’t take into account challenges such as these.
There should have been a well-planned drainage system for situations such as this, where the water from the rain is been disposed off properly without causing any disruption to aircraft, human and luggage in and around the airport.
But no, we are in a country where the politicians, engineers, and even the laborers are only out for they’re own selfish interest.
The government should look into this situation and fish out those who did such a poorly done work.
