Amidst reports that FC Barcelona will be appointing a new manager next season, the club has announced officially that Ernesto Valverde has signed a contract extension.
The former Athletic Bilbao coach who isn’t popular amongst fans of the Catalan giants is set to sign a new contract keeping him at the club for another season with the option of renewing for an additional year.
His current contract was due to expire at the end of the 2018/2019 season.
Valverde brought home the league double last season. His Barça side are currently top of the Laliga league table with six points above rivals, Real Madrid.
They’re also in the Copa Del Rey semifinal and will be battling Olympique Lyon next week, in UEFA Champions League round of 16.
He has managed the Camp Nou side in 96 official matches (won 65, drew 22 and lost just 9).
Barcelona announced that details of the extension will be ironed out and signed this morning, before Valverde will meet the press by 5pm.
