Aston Villa fans will be celebrating an emphatic 5-0 win over Liverpool at Villa Park this evening. A brace from Kodjia helped to secure the victory during their EFL Cup quarter-final clash on Tuesday night.
After a slow start to the game, Villa broke the deadlock 14 minutes into the game as Conor Hourihane whips in the resulting set-piece and it goes beyond everyone in the penalty area before finding the bottom left corner.
An own-goal by Morgan Boyes saw the home side double their lead 3 minutes later. After some bright play from Villa, El Mohamady’s cross from the right deflects off Boyes before looping over Kelleher and dropping into the bottom left corner.
8 minutes to end of first half, the home side grabbed their third. Jota pokes a loose ball behind Van den Berg and sends Jonathan Kodjia through one-on-one with Kelleher.
Before Kodjia doubled his tally of the night on the stroke of half time to make the scoreline 4-0. Jota wins the ball on the edge of the box before laying it out to the right for El Mohamady.
90′ + 2′ Wesley completed the rout to make it five. A swift counter down the left-hand side of the field resulted in Trezeguet playing Wesley through on goal, and the forward found the bottom right corner with a low, curing effort from the centre of the box.
Dean Smith will be delighted with the scoreline, victory and how his side controled the whole game.
The 5-0 win sees Liverpool kicked out of the EFL Cup while Villa progress to semi-finals.
