This appointment comes as Governor Fubara relieved His Majesty, Eze Ohna Sergeant Awuse, Nyeweli Emohua, of his position due to his failure to fulfil leadership responsibilities effectively, Hitvibz reports.

Governor Fubara made this announcement during a crucial meeting with government-recognised traditional rulers at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt. Governor Fubara Appoints Eze Wodo as New Chair of Rivers Traditional Rulers Council

He cited the expiration of Eze Awuse’s one-year term and noted that the former chairman’s leadership negatively impacted the council’s contributions to the state’s development.

A significant point of contention was the omission of the Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s portraits in the Council’s 2024 calendar, which Governor Fubara interpreted as an act of disrespect and opposition to his administration.

The governor highlighted the lack of meetings with the Royal Fathers since he assumed office, exposing the Council’s inactivity under Eze Awuse’s tenure.

From my observation, the Council for a while has been very inactive, maybe because the chairman has decided not to live up to his responsibility as chairman,” Governor Fubara stated.

Governor Fubara expressed his commitment to collaborating with the traditional rulers to ensure peace and security in the state.

He charged Eze Wodo with the task of uniting the Council and working in alignment with government directives.

The governor also promised the immediate release of allowances and the provision of official vehicles for the recognised traditional rulers, urging them to support the new leadership.

Traditional rulers are the closest to our local communities; we must work with them, and our government is one that gives serious priority to the people. I want you to maintain peace in your respective domains,” he added.
