Giroud hat-trick compound Dynamo Kiev misery as Chelsea cruise to Europa League quater-finals
Chelsea on Thursday cruised to Europa League quater-finals after hammering Dynamo Kiev 5-0 during their last-16 second-leg clash and 8-0 on aggregate.
Olivier Giroud hat-trick, goal from Marcos Alonso and Callum Hudson-Odoi was all the Blues needed to cruise to Europa League quater-finals.
Dynamo Kiev came into the game with a 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge last week, hoping to overturn the scoreline but failed woefully.
Just 5 minutes into the game, Giroud open scoring for the visitors with a simple tap in.
33 minutes on, Giroud grabbed his double and his eighth Europa League goal of the season, arriving on the end of Alonso’s cross.
Alonso divided the defence with his assist, bending a cross around the Kiev back four for Giroud to complete the work and give Chelsea a 2-0 lead.
45′ + 1′ minutes, the assist provider turns scorer, giving Chelsea a 3-0 lead, following Hudson-Odoi’s surge down the right, the defender arrives late in the middle having started at the back post.
59 minutes on the clock, Giroud grabbed hat-trick to make it 4-0 for the Blues.
The Frenchman was on hand from Willian’s whipped free-kick to notch his ninth Europa League goal in as many games.
78 minutes on, Hudson-Odoi scores to make it 5-0. The youngster raced in behind to meet a throughball from Giroud and no one could catch him before finishing beyond Boyko.
An easy and comfortable victory for the Blues as they progress to the next stage.
