Google announced today that its new quantum computer can run complex calculations in 4 minutes.
According to Google’s post which was found on the NASA website for a brief period, these calculations would normally take 10,000 years for today’s classical super computers to solve such a problem.
Reports from Google say that Researchers have created a computer that can carry out calculations way beyond the reach of traditional computers, it has been reported.
The scientists say it marks the achievement of something called “quantum supremacy” which simply translates to Quantum computer capable of running sequences that non standard digital 0’s and 1’s computers are able to perform using the same accuracy and in such a short time.
The calculation that was performed was an algorithm that output a random sequence of numbers. This calculation took four minutes to produce an answer.
This was made possible using a Quantum processor that is designed with some form of Quantum physics being applied at the subatomic – clearly this does not exist in any conventional computers out there today despite the fact that there are similar computers built in the past.
Why is this breakthrough significant?
The world of Tech is highly focused on three technologies at the moment, namely AI, Quantum computers and Augmented Reality. The rate at which information is processed is getting even faster and newer tech devices are pumped out at a faster rate than even seen in recent times.
The down according to experts is that some quantum computers can only perform at their optimal speed when certain conditions are in place.
The founder of a quantum software company called Riverlane, said:
“It’s a significant milestone, and the first time that somebody has shown that quantum computers could outperform classical computers.”
Google is so far is yet to comment as of the time of writing the report.
