The Leadership of the National Union of Rivers State Student (NURSS) has expressed reasons why it decided to temporarily suspend the planned protest scheduled to hold today Thursday November 26th in Port Harcourt.
The NURSS leadership had over the weekend announced the decision of Rivers students to protest against alleged ills meted out on them in the past 5 years and counting.
But NURSS President, Comrade Levi George in a statement on Thursday morning said credible intelligence at the Union’s disposal indicated that some miscreants were planning to stage a counter protest to ridicule and bring to naught, the calls and demands of all Rivers State students for Governor Nyesom Wike‘s administration to prioritize matters relating to their welfare.
He said the miscreants who were waiting to capitalize on the planned peaceful protest in order to wreck havoc and orchestrate a state of pandemonium and lawlessness in Port Harcourt aimed at sole indicting the leadership of NURSS and pitching them against the state government.
Levi also said the Rivers State Government has reached out and officially asked the NURSS leadership to compile data of all Rivers state students for the purpose of bursary payment.
“We are engaged in a productive dialogue with the Government and hopefully, bursary payment will be carried out,” he said.
