CNN’s Christiane Amanpour speaks with Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo about why there is “no excusing” the killing of George Floyd and his vow to march with the Floyd family for justice.
Houston’s police chief Art Acevedo in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour expressed his disgust at the way rioters and the destruction ongoing across the country in the name of the now late George Floyd was was killed by a police.
He praised the city of Houston for its diversity and communal spirit in the wake of the unrest taking over the country.The Chief pointed out the need for the police and the people to work together saying:
“In a Nation of laws where people have right, we cannot do our jobs if we lose the consent of the people but we will lose the consent of the people if (a) injustices like this continue to happen and (b) if when they happen we do not take the actions that needs to be seen“
Chief Acevedo in the interview was later asked about President’s Trumps leaked phone conversation with some Governors where he advised the Governors to take tough actions against to curb the unrest saying;
“You look like a bunch of Jerks. You have to dominate, You have to arrest people. ”
In response to that, the Chief had some choice words for President Trump – He said:
“Let me just say this to the President of the United States, on behalf of the police chiefs of this country: please, if you don’t have something constructive to say, keep your mouth shut”
