Barcelona have returned to winning ways in Spanish laliga by beating Villarreal 2-1 at the Camp Nou in match day six fixtures.
The Laliga defending champions, who have had a poor start to the league season, coming off the back of a shocking 2-0 loss away to Granada, were able to grind out a win thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann and Arthur.
The win however came at the expense of the newly crowned FIFA The Best player, Lionel Messi, suffering another injury in his first start for the club since returning from the sidelines.
Lionel Messi missed the start of the season for Barcelona due to the calf injury he sustained during pre-season, and have since then been struggling to make starts or an impact for the Blaugrana side.
Antoine Griezmann scored an early goal to put Barça in front, before Arthur Melo doubled the lead with a great strike. Santi Cazorla was able to pull one back for Yellow Submarines before half time.
Barcelona however returned for the second half without injured Lionel Messi and were able to see out the win that took them fourth on the log with their possessive football.
It remains to be seen if Messi’s substitution was merely one of caution or the six times player of the year winner has suffered a relapse.
