Can you run a little intro about yourself?
My name is George Okaikwei Okaiteye, known as FloEazy and I’m a music artist majorly in the Afrobeat and Afropop genre.
We learnt you started singing from Primary Five, how true is that?
[Laughs] That’s not true.. realized I could sing when I was in senior secondary school.. I used to be shy when it comes to singing at my young age.. until I summoned the courage during my SHS (Senior High School).
How did you coin the name “FloEazy” ?
FloEazy came as a result of my first time in a music studio. The producer at that time played a beat he did and told me to freestyle on it and then the words started coming in and he was like “see as you just dey flow easy” and since then I decided to call myself “FloEazy”.
What made you say, ok I want to pursue music as a career?
To be honest with you, 3 things made me decided to pursue music as a career
1. My passion and Talent for music
2. To stand as a voice of many
3. The money one derives from it cos I really want to impact so many lives from my family, my friends and a lot out there who are in need.
We’ve seen a lot of your fans say you’re always on social media, when do you even have time to attend shows. What’s your take on that?
[Laughs] Well I’m still young in the industry so I have to give all necessary time required to build my fan base.. Be it on social media or shows I attend.. Being interactive with your fans is important when building your brand as an artist
Which means you hardly attend shows?
Recently performed at one of Ghana’s big event alongside Slimcase, Erigga and some top Ghanaian celebs, so I do attend shows.
Where do you have the highest fan base, Ghana or Nigeria?
Funny enough I can’t tell course the love and feedbacks I get from both side is really difficult to differentiate and that’s really a positive one for me and my team.
But majority of the time you are always in Ghana, why is that?
Bacause I’m a Ghanaian [Smiles]
We heard you ran away from Nigeria to Ghana because you felt life is easier over there, how true is that?
People come up with stories just to get traffic, so I’m not surprised.. If life is easier as they think, they should come to Ghana and have an experience.. I came back to Ghana because I feel it was the right thing to do. This is where I come from and I need to make my people know FloEazy exist.
So, do you ever plan on moving to Nigeria to establish a base permanently?
Ghana and Nigeria are my home.. So I’m always available to be in any of the places when the needs arises.
As an artist, how do you compare Nigerian entertainment industry to that of Ghana?
Nigeria industry is wide and very industrious when it comes to the music business.. The competition and population is so much compared to that of Ghana.. But Ghana is improving and we are getting noticed, so it’s a gradual process.
Do do you think Nigerian Music has huge influence on Ghanaian music industry or its the other way round?
They both have influences on each other in every way round.. if not there won’t be any collaborations between Ghanaians and Nigerian artists.. We are Africans and music worldwide got influences on countries that’s why there are different genres of music for whosoever ears it pleases.
So far, what are your most significant accomplishment ?
One of the most significant accomplishment was when my recent song Wavey was played on a radio station in Miami in the United States.. And as well build a well satisfied brand for myself with the help of my team.
What do you think are the biggest challenges facing young artist like you in Ghana?
Some of the challenges we face are getting investors or record label to financially support the artist.. Trying to get the attention of people who are already huge fans to the top celebs to listen to what you have to offer and a good recording studio to give one the best standard of production.
So, any plan in stock to overcome some of this challenges?
Yes there are so much plans and work going on.. For now what’s important is investing in myself and building my brand portfolio so that I can look very attractive to maybe an investor or a record label in the future.
It could be recalled that last year you signed a deal with a record label, what happened to that deal?
Yes I did signed a management deal and not a record deal. Many people mistake a management deal for a record deal which are two different things.. They are no longer my management. I work with a new management now.
How many songs do you have to your name and how do fans relate to them?
Recently, you dropped the visual to your hit track, “Wavey” featuring DJ AD, how would you rate the video?
Will rate it 100/100 because for such quality of video to come out of a low budget is just amazing.. Kudos to the director, Louis Filmworks who did the magic by bringing such a great song to live. And to everyone who participated in one way or the other.
And response from your fans concerning the music video?
The response are great based on the comments I receive on my social media platforms and on YouTube.. They all love the video.
Ok, let’s drift your attention a bit, Nigerian Jollof rice or Ghanian, which would you die for?
[Laughs].. I have tasted both and I love both so so much.. you should try Ghanaian jollof someday and make your decision.. Remember we all have different taste and opinions.
February 16, the faith of Nigerians will be decided, who do you think will emerge President?
Oh yes that’s so true.. I am really not following up on the issue that well but my own opinion is voting for a change of government who will be able to turn the economic situation at hand to a better one.
Ok, so, it’s valentine’s day, will you be chilling with fans or someone special?
Ever worked with any popular artist?
Well I’m looking forward towards working with a lot of artist.. i have worked with a few top acts and international collaborations as well which are not yet officially out but will definitely be out in due time.
Who is that one popular artist you would love to have on your track?
Because every collaboration he does, he pushes it as if it’s his own song.. Does it with open heart and pure love.
Do you play any instrument?
No I don’t
Apart from your latest video, should your fans be expecting any new project from you soon?
Yes lots of projects will be coming in soon.. They should just keep following my updates on my social media platforms to know which project drops next.
How do you cope with female fans?
Same way I cope with male fans.. I freely and genuinely interact with them with caution..
Three things fans don’t know about FloEazy?
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Winning awards, doing great international collaborations, and giving back to the world by helping the less privilege.
With lots of admirers at your disposal, what advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Follow my good habits and don’t follow the bad habits.. In all things you do, put it in prayers.. Put every little you have in investing into yourself and watch yourself grow beyond expectations.
One important message to all your fans out there?
Please don’t give up on me.. keep supporting me and help share my works to your friends and loved ones.. Don’t give up on your individual dreams and goals.. The road may be rough but you will definitely get to your destination.
Ok…. Thank you for your time, we wish you the best
Thanks for having me on your platform.. Really had a good time..
