The Super Eagles of Nigeria ended the 2019 African Cup of Nation campaign in Egypt on a high note on Wednesday as they won the third-place playoff with a 1-0 victory over Tunisia at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.
Odion Ighalo’s early goal was the difference between the two teams at the end of 90 minutes.
The number 9 man gave Nigeria the lead after a mix-up in the Tunisia defense with a right footed shot from very close range to the centre of the goal.
Nigeria were the better side of the two teams, both first and second half, though had just a goal to show for their dominance.
The Carthage Eagles and the three-time African champions met 17 times on the international scene, including four outings at Afcon. Tunisia won six of the games while the Super Eagles Eagles secured five victories.
The victory today means the Super Eagles have played the most Afcon third-place playoff games , winning all while Tunisia have won only managed to win one of their three third-place games.
