The Lagos state government has set up new traffic Regulations, Lagos state motorists have to obey or face steep penalties for breaking the new rules.
Lagos Traffic Law is designed to protect law abiding road users. It is also designed to ensure that those who flout any of its stipulations are made to face the consequences of their action; The new traffic law is strictly for better road usage and to minimize the numbers of road accidents that occur in the state.
Judging from the new released traffic rules, it seems to be a case of you commit the offence, you face the consequence. Below is the list of the new Lagos traffic rules.
I must say that some of these laws are borderline extreme and I could be forgiven for suggesting this is no more than a means to extort money from poor motorists; Regulations like ‘driving and eating with one hand’ or ‘smoking while driving’ attract 30,000 naira fine plus having your vehicle impounded. Clearly absurd.
However, that does not take away the fact that this was a good step to making motorists in Lagos state more responsible while driving, the question that needs an answer, is the road car worthy? Basically how much should we fine the bad roads that by all accounts damages the public and private transport vehicles Before dissing out such rules, surely they have to known that the roads have to be car worthy.
