Manchester City climbed to the summit of the English Premier League after they got a goal from an unlikely source to see off Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.

Eighten year old Phil Foden scored his first ever Premier League goal as he helped City pip Spurs in match day 34’s lunch time kickoff.
Spurs and City were facing off for the second time this week, 3 days after their goal-crazy second leg match-up in the UEFA Champions League where Poch’s side came off victorious on away goals after the game ended 4-3 to City on the night.
Guardiola’s team were pumped for the league game– after VAR had denied them a semi final place in Europe in the mid week– and they started off the match with very high intensity and press-marking.
Just five minutes into the match, surprise starter, Phil Foden popped the cherry for the Citizens, which proved to be a very vital goal in their league campaign.

The goal was scored after City built up play from their half to the right wing where Bernardo Silva received the ball from Kyle Walker, the Portuguese saw off his oppositions before sending a weighted cross to a free Sergio Aguero, who headed the ball to Phil, and the young lad headed home from close range.
Son almost grabbed an equalizer for the away side when he blitzed through the City defence but Ederson rushed out to force a save and keep his side ahead just before half time.
Pep Guardiola led his team out for the second half with a much better organized defending than was seen from them in the midweek, as they frustrated every effort put in by the vibrant Spurs’ team.
City’s man of the moment, Raheem Sterling had a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 71st minute. Substitute, Leroy Sane sent in a low cross to an unmarked Sterling, he powered in a left footed shot which was surprisingly saved by Gazzaniga’s leg, putting the ball away.
1-0 it ended in favour of Manchester City as they climb above Liverpool on the log with a game in hand (an away trip to their fierce rivals and neighbors, Manchester United on Wednesday).
A win in the Manchester derby will see City edge closer to the league title as they will open a four points gap on thier closest rivals, Liverpool.
