Manchester City got their Champions League campaign off to a flying start with a 3-0 victory away to Shakhtar Donetsk in Metalist Stadium, Kharkiv of Ukraine.
Manchester City took the lead in the 25th minute after Shakhtar Donetsk lost position of the ball to City as Gabriel Jesus set up İĺkay Gundogan whose curler came off the post and the rebound fell kindly for Riyad Mahrez who tucked in his first goal of the season on his 50th game for the Citizens.
Creator turned goal scorer and goal scorer turned creator as Gundogan put City 2 goals up in the 38th minute as a quick passage of play from City saw Mahrez run into the Donetsk defence as he found Gundogan who sloted home with a poke on the ball.
In the second half, Raheem Sterling almost made it three for City but his shot unfortunately hit the woodwork.
The third goal eventually came in the 76th minute via Gabriel Jesus. De Bruyne provided a sublime pass to set up the Brazilian who did what he knows how to do best to secure three points for the Manchester side.
