Manchester United have been handed the most difficult opposition available in today’s UEFA Champions League draw, as they were picked to face FC Barcelona.
The red devils were just fresh off a difficult tie with Paris Saint-Germain in which they needed a late penalty goal by Marcus Rashford to overturn the tie in their favour on away goals.
With Barcelona coming their way in the quarter final, United would have faced three sides (Juventus, PSG and Barça) tipped to lift the big ears at the end of the campaign.
Matches between Barcelona and Manchester United have hardly been favourable to the three times Champions League winners. They’ve faced 11 times in Europe with Barcelona coming out tops with 4 wins. They’ve played out a draw on four occasions. Barcelona also beat Manchester United twice in UCL final in 2009 and 2011 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
It remains to be seen if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be avenging that loss for Sir Alex when both sides meet.
Barcelona will be at home in the first leg of the match-up on the 9th of April. While the second leg at Old Trafford will be played 7 days later.
Other fixtures in the UCL quarter final draw are:
Ajax vs Juventus
Tottenham vs Manchester City
Liverpool vs FC Porto
