Mozambique recently suffered a devastating Cyclone Idai, which first hit Beira last week and then moved inland to Zimbabwe and Malawi.
The Mozambique Cyclone Idai occurred after days of rain, the River Pungwe which meets the sea at Beira broke its banks and flooded the surrounding countryside of the country.
Pictures have surfaced online of the entire area almost completely under water. Roads, farm land, properties as far as the eyes can see were destroyed by Idai.
The disaster is said to have killed more than 1,000 people, –Health officials have confirmed the out break of cholera in the country and over 15, 000 people are still yet to be recused from roof tops and shelters that were not damaged by the cyclone.
Meek Mill an American Hiphop/Rapper took to his twitter page to express his frustration through the hashtag #PrayForMozambique on the situation in Mozambique which has received little media coverage in the American media.
Another person identified as Sonia D (@MrsD7874), tweeted her views by saying that there is a need for donation towards the victims.
“This is such a tragedy, and it shouldn’t be ignored. Are there any organizations in America receiving donations? Please help these people of Mozambique…#PrayForMozambique”
One Mr. Ernest Owens (@MrErnestOwens) in his views expressed shock over the little media attention the Mozambique Cyclone Idai was receiving.
“1,000 Black people were most likely killed in Mozambique.
I don’t know why this isn’t trending worldwide as much as when one American is missing.
#PrayForMozambique needs to be everywhere.”
It is disappointing to say the least that something as devastating and important as this, is getting little or no media coverage all around the world. This begs the question “have we lost our humanity?” Ever more needing for an answer.
