Hat trick by Lionel Messi and late minute strike from Luis Suarez saw Barcelona come from behind twice to defeat Sevilla 4-2 at the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.
The match day 25 fixture between Sevilla and Barcelona started in heated fashion with the Andalusians drawing first blood through Captain, Jesus Navas in the 22nd minute.
Barcelona tried to get an equalizer almost immediately when Vidal sent a header towards goal but Sevilla’s GK, Vaclik got a good grip on it.
The home side couldn’t stop Lionel Messi in the 26th minute from getting Barcelona leveled. Rakitic channelled a weighted cross to the Argentine, who took a perfect first time volley to get his first of the afternoon.
Sevilla certainly made life difficult for the catalan giants as they got back in front on the stroke of half time. Sarabia had done well to keep the ball into play, he cut back in to set up Mercado and the defender did well to get his side back in front. 2-1 it ended in the first half.
The second half was evenly contested from start, with Sevilla looking to even put the game beyond the table toppers.
But Lionel Messi had other plans. The Laliga leading top scorer (now on 25 goals) did not only bring Barça back into the game in the 68th minute, he dimmed Sevilla’s hopes of even grabbing a point from the match by securing a beautiful hat trick (his 50th hat trick as a Barcelona player) with less than five minutes of regulation time to play.
Under performing striker, Luis Suarez only robbed salt on Sevilla’s wound by scoring a reassuring fourth goal in extra time to take all three points back to the Camp Nou.
A second half turn around which certainly excited their manager, Ernesto Valverde as his side start to inch closer to the league title.
