Michy Batshuayi late strike was all Frank Lampard’s Chelsea needed to secure a 1-0 victory over Ajax during their Champions League game at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Ajax opened scoring 35 minutes into the game as they caught the Blues napping from a very smart throw. Ziyech’s sublime cross was deflected to the back post and Promes steers it past Kepa with a simple tap-in.
But their joy was short lived as the goal was disallowed. There was a suspicion of offside against Promes in the build-up to the goal. He was marginally offside and the goal didn’t stand.
85 minutes on, Chelsea scored to grab all 3 points. Super substitute – Batshuayi with a wonderful finish that hits the underside of the crossbar on the way in.
A geat play from Pulisic on the left to pick out Batshuayi. The substitutes combined to give Chelsea a late victory.
Despite some defensive sloppiness from Chelsea, Ajax only managed one real chance – an Alvarez header off the post after an hour.
