Super Eagles Captain and Tianjin TEDA midfielder, John Obi Mikel has been ruled out of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa and friendly against Uganda this month due to injury.
The Nigeria captain is yet to feature for the Super Eagles after they failed to advance from the the group stages of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, after suffering from a muscle injury in training.
Mikel missed Tianjin Teda’s Tuesday’s training as a result of the injury. He will however miss Tianjin TEDA’s Sunday’s final game of the season away at Guangzhou Evergrande.
The Eagles’ head coach, Gernot Rohr has called up Henry Onyekuru as a replacement for injured Odion Ighalo ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa.
Onyekuru who was initially placed on standby has now be invited to fill the spot left by the former Watford player – scorer of five goals in the Super Eagles’ double-header fixture against Libya in September.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) disclosed this on its Twitter handle on Thursday.

While Enyimba’s number one choice keeper, Theophilus Afelokhai will replace injured Uzoho Francis as stated on the Super Eagle’ official twitter handle.

Super Eagles top Group E with nine points, one more than Bafana Bafana who sit in second place.
Libya occupy third position with four points, while Seychelles have one point.
The Super Eagles will take on the Bafana Bafana at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on November 17.
