Two goals from Luis Suarez helped Barcelona defeat fierce rivals Real Madrid 3-0 as they qualified for the Copa Del Rey final for a record sixth time in a row.
Los Blancos welcomed rivals, Barcelona at the santiago Bernabeu for the return leg of the Copa Del Rey Semi Final, having played out 1-1 draw in the first leg.
Santiago Solari’s men were welcomed in the Spanish capital by a beehive of Madridistas who trooped out in their numbers to boost the morale of their stars ahead of the all important clash.
The first half was more of Vinicius Jnr versus Barcelona. But the Brazilian protegee was like a mini Thanos who failed to use all the powers in his gauntlet to damage Ernesto Valverde’s men. He missed a good number of clear cut chances to put the game to bed.
Casemiro set him up with a sumptuous through ball, putting him one on one with Ter Stegen, but the youngster disappointed with his finish and Karim Benzema failed to convert the rebound.
In the 36th minute, Vinicius got another great chance to break the deadlock after Sergio Reguilon slide through a pass from the left wing to Vinicius, who had acres of space in the box but his shot could only hit the bar.
The second half started off somewhat nightmarish for Real madrid, as the unexpected happened. Luis Suarez, who had a very low-key first half, opened scoring for Barcelona. He was well set up by French forward, Ousmane Demebele.
Real Madrid had managed to go from controlling the match, to finding themselves trailing at home.
in the 66th minute, Vinicius had everyone thinking he had grabbed the equalizer for Real Madrid. He took the ball from 36 yards out, dazzled his way through the Barcelona defence but somehow managed not to convert his curler.
Just two minutes after Real Madrid almost equalized, Barcelona pounced on them and grabbed their second. Ousmane Dembele perfectly beat the offside trap and slid a pass to a running Luis Suarez, who dragged the ball and Real Madrid defenders into the net. The goal later went down as an own goal on Varane.
With 70 minutes gone, things went from Bad to worse for Real Madrid. Casemiro tripped Luis Suarez in the box. Referee, Hernandez Hernandez wasted no time in pointing to the box. The Uruguayan striker stepped up and panenka-d his way to a brace.
Barcelona 3-0 to the good, a scoreline which didn’t really depict the full story. Solari and his men were gnashing their teeth seeing that the first half chances they failed to make use of have hunted them in the worst way possible.
They bow out of the Copa Del Rey with a 1-4 aggregate loss to Barcelona.
