Modric scores as Croatia beat Nigeria

The Super Eagles’ sixth appearance at the World Cup finals ended in defeat as an own goal from Etebo and Luca Modric’s second half goal was all Croatia needed to secure a well deserved victory at Kaliningrad stadium on Saturday.

Croatia opened scoring just 32 minutes into the fame after a superb cross caused problems for the Nigeria defence. Mandzukic throws himself at the ball and his glancing header deflects off Etebo and creeps past Uzoho.

69 minutes into the game, Croatia were awarded a penalty after Troost-Ekong pulled Mandzukic down. Modric was the man of the moment. The captain takes responsibility for the penalty and he stepped up before sendig Uzoho the wrong way to make it 2-0.

Modric was superb all through the game as he pulled the strings, while Rakitic, Kramaric and Mandzukic also looked sharp.
