Korean dramas has over the years managed to attract fans all over the world with its interesting and breath taking plots, story-lines and twists.
I have always been a fan of K-dramas since I watched my first Korean series “Boys before flower” and fell in love with my first Oppa (Lee Min Ho). But after that I cannot even count how many Oppa’s I have fallen in love with, there are so many of them.
Anyways, this write up is for those K-drama fans who want to know the latest Korean drama series they can watch. I have decided to share with you my top 4 K-drama of 2018.
4) What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim
Starring Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young as Lee Young Joon, a young arrogant chaebol and Kim Mi So, Lee’s secretary. The drama tells a story of the young chaebol who refused to let go of his secretary when he found out that she wanted to quit her job, because of how dependent he has grown to be on her. It was later revealed that the two has a more complicated relationship than we thought.
Most of the scenes in this drama will make you laugh and have you feeling very much in love with the series characters. I really enjoyed the movie from the moment it started, the romantic gestures from Park Seo Joon, had been yearning for him to be in love with me.
3) Radio Romance
This drama stars Yoon Doojoon and Kim So Hyun, it tells a tale of first loves. Ji Soo Ho (Yoon Doojoon) and Song Geu Rim (Kim So Hyun) were first in love with each other during their high school. Soo Ho later grew up to become a mega movie star and Geu Rim became a radio script writer after school. But when Soo Ho meets Geu Rim again, she did not recognise him.
This K-drama is really one of the few that got me engrossed in it, maybe because I was able to related to Geu Rim struggles and desire to become a great radio writer, might also be because of how she was bullied and told that she was a bad writer (trust me, I have been there) or maybe it is Soo Hoo struggle to break free from the lies his family tell in order to keep face in public, or might also be his desperate battle with depression after losing his best friend. This I recommend if you are into love and sweet series
2) A Korean Odyssey
Starring Lee Seung Gi (this is his first film after his military service) and Oh Yeon Seo as Son Oh Gong and Jin Sun Mi respectively.
This drama is a fantasy romance series, it tells a story of the mighty monkey deity- Great sage Son Oh Gong (Lee Seung Gi) who was banished to the human realm with his powers sealed in a house inside a thick forest, but was later released by a little girl who could see ghosts-Jin Sun Mi (Oh Yeon Seo) when she was sent into the house by the Bull Demon King (Cha Seung Won) to acquire the iron princess fan for him. Son Oh made a life contract with her to protect her whenever she calls his name, if she releases him.
After Sun Mi had done her part, the great sage refused to keep his part of the bargain by erasing Sun Mi’s memory of his name. Years later the pair met and it was discovered that Sun Mi was the new Sam Jang, whose blood gives immense power to any demon or deity who eats her which Son Oh Gong was willing to eat her up for.
Sun Mi in a bid to protect herself from Son Oh Gong seeks help from the Bull Demon King and they successfully tamed the Monkey king by using a magical bracelet to cast a love spell on Oh Gong. This led to a love story between the two characters.
I love this drama, everything about it was just top notch, from the actors, to the story lines, to the romance scenes and the ending. I felt all kinds of emotions watching this drama, I was scared, I was sad, I was happy, I cried, I laughed and I was very impressed with the chemistry between the characters.
I have never been the kind to love horror movies but this drama (and master’s sun) are the only scary drama that I will happily watch any day anytime. If you are really looking for a drama to put you on the edge, this is the drama for you.
1) My ID is Gangnam Beauty
My ID is Gangnam Beauty stars Im Soo Hyang and Cha Eun Woo in a college love story. Unlike the typical youth dramas staged in school setting, this drama is really different from the normal immature K-drama college series.
The series centers it story on the love story of Kang Mi Rea (Im Soo Hyang) and Do Kyung Seok (Cha Eun Woo) in the campus and the heroine struggle of what she think makes her happy and accepting the decision she made after that, while having a boyfriend who accepts her for who she truly is.
This drama reminds me a lot of my school days, I relived my childhood life through the heroine, from her struggle of being bullied for being overweight and after she finally lost the weight, but was called ugly which pushed her into going for plastic surgery to make herself beautiful, but then again she was called a freak. The most interesting thing about this series was her realising and accepting herself for who she was, that’s what I love so much about this drama, it took me to a drake place where I was once before and gave me a reason to have confident in my kind of beauty, I can now scream to the world that My ID is Anambra Beauty (lols).
This drama had me crushing on Oppa Cha Eun Woo with his beautiful manly features and have me yearning for my own fairy-tale love.
The drama also shows the frailties and vulnerabilities of women. This is one of the dramas I highly recommend if you ask me for any K-drama suggestions, because its nicely paced, decently acted and relate-able story-line.
