The national assembly earlier yesterday, April 30 approves N160 billion for the payment of the just endorsed minimum wage for federal workers and severance benefits
President Mohammadu Buhari had approves the bill on Tuesday Following the endorsement of the 2019 budget presentation by Nigerian lawmakers, presided over by Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara at the National Assembly, Abuja.
December 19 witnessed the 2019 budget proposal of N8.83 trillion by the president, Mohammadu Buhari before the joint section of the National Assembly. But the bill was amended with a N90 billion increase to make N8.92 trillion after which the Senate and the House of Representative pass the appropriation bill on Tuesday.
It was also vibz that the report of the Appropriation on the 2019 budget bill under item 90 reads:
“public service wage adjustment for MDAs (including arrears of promotion and salary increases) and payment of severance benefits covers N160 billion as its budget”
while the item 88 reads:
“payment of outstanding death benefit to civil servants/police has N5 billion for the budget”.
The interview with the Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Danjuma Goje, told the newsman shortly after the budget passage confirms that the N160 billion was meant to fund the minimum increase and severance benefits as stipulated in item 90 of the report. But in the case of failure to meet the demand, the federal government could present a supplimentary budget to cover the shortfall.
