An enthralling clash awaits viewers of the ongoing Total African Cup of Nations as Nigeria take on South African in Cairo on Wednesday 10th of July, 2019, for a spot in the Semi-Finals of the tournament.
Three-time African Champions Nigeria would be looking to take a step further in making it four as they take on South Africa’s Bafana Bafana who only won the tournament when they hosted in 1996.
Two teams who faced each other in the qualifiers of the Total African Cup of Nations cemented their spot in the Quarter-Finals as an Odion Ighalo inspired Nigeria side came from a goal down to secure a 3-2 victory over defending Champions Cameroon and South Africa shocking the Host nation and Africa as a whole as they defeated Mohammed Salah’s Egyptian team with a late goal, to win the game 1-0 in Cairo.
The last time these two sides met was at the Qualifying rounds of the Total African Cup of Nations as South Africa and Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw in South Africa and South Africa beating Nigeria 2-0 in Nigeria.
Nigeria manager, Gernot Rohr is expected to stick to the same XI that defeated defending champions 3-2 in a thrilling Round of 16 contest in Alexandria and also Stuart Baxter the South Africa manager is not expected to make any changes to the side that shocked Egypt 1-0 in the round of 16 in Cairo.
“Nigeria is one of the best teams in the tournament and it’s going to be a difficult match” said Stuart Baxter the South Africa’s coach who is ready for a tough battle in Cairo.
The last time these two sides faced off in the Total African Cup of Nations, Nigeria advanced as winners beating South Africa by 2-0 in a Semi-final clash in 2000 and would be looking for more of the same as they are termed favourites but need to be weary as the South African side would want to be a force to be reckoned with by shocking the whole world a second time.
