The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken a crucial step in addressing the persistent challenges faced by Nigerians in obtaining passports, as Acting Comptroller General Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju declares a state of emergency on passport matters.
This announcement comes as a response to the urgent need for effective measures to streamline the passport issuance process in the country.
In a recent working visit to Lagos, Adepoju expressed her concerns and highlighted the gravity of the situation.
Recognizing the difficulties experienced by citizens, she emphasized the need for immediate action to alleviate these challenges.
To combat this issue, the Acting Comptroller General has developed a comprehensive plan of action, as stated in a press release signed by Tony Akuneme, Comptroller of Immigration in charge of Media and Publicity.
Adepoju has instructed all Passport Control Officers, relevant units, and personnel within the NIS, including foreign missions, to work tirelessly towards eliminating the obstacles hindering Nigerians from promptly accessing passports.
Despite the current difficulties, the Ag. CGI assures the public that efforts are underway to ensure that every eligible Nigerian in need of a passport can obtain one in a timely manner.
Acknowledging the patience and cooperation of the Nigerian people, the NIS urges citizens to continue their support during this crucial phase.
By declaring a state of emergency on passport matters, the Nigeria Immigration Service has made a resolute commitment to address the passport crisis head-on and facilitate a smoother passport issuance process for Nigerians.
