Nigerian football player, Junior Duru has been confirmed dead after he was shot during a shootout between two rival cult gangs in Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.

According to reports, Duru who is the 17-year-old younger brother of Lobi Stars defender Ebube Duru met his untimely death while visiting his friend on campus.
It is known that Duru was among the invited players for the Golden Eaglets squad but was not picked to be among the team that made it to the ongoing UEFA/CAF U-17 tournament in Turkey.
In reaction to the sad news, Ebube Duru, the Lobi Stars player explained that it was painful learning about his death. Adding that the deceased planned to become a professional footballer, but the cold hands of death took him at a very young age
“It’s very painful I have to just move on, I think it’s another thing now to make me double my effort,”
“He told me before I travelled that he wants to play football to the highest level, he couldn’t achieve and I think that’s one thing I owe him so I’ll try my best and make sure I play this game to the highest level and make him proud”
Indeed, it is truly a sad loss for the nation.
