The big question now is, should he be seeking for help from Nigerians, federal government or the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) or we should all just watch him die?
The poor health condition of the former coach of Kenyan Harambee stars and Super Eagles’ captain that won Nigeria’s first ever Africa Cup of Nations title in 1980 is seriously raising a lot of dust, as Nigerians feels government tend to neglect its own and show no concern or support toward its past heroes.
One Idongesit Asaka (@IdongesitAsaka) was quick to ask on twitter;
“Where is NFF”
Courageous (@itz_courageous) noted;
“I know the ogas at the top will disappear when they see this tweet.”
Black Boy Mich (@masta_mich) said;
“You hardly hear of such in Europe, their FA will sort him out or other ex footballers. But what do I know.”
Victor (@kosi_nnebe) noted;
“Their salaries alone and retirement plans are enough.”
unBEATen (@iamunBEATen) said;
“This is shameful if we are going to crowd funding the health bill of ex captain, ex Coach of super eagles. What is sport ministry doing or Nigeria football association. This is become embarrassing. People that should enjoy huge retirement benefits are now at the mercy of people.”
Cossy (@cossyb) added;
“What’s even wrong with this country, this man served the nation, the least Nigerian government will do is to help out in this difficult time. @MBuhari.”
While Alhaji Yusuf (@McShaffy) revealed that;
“Nigeria is a den. This is the reason why corruption will never die. It’s a vicious circle that continues. If you are opportune and don’t take yours, it will be you and your family then the name for cash comes. This is it! No one is assured.”
Hitvibz gathered that Christian Chukwu will be needing an estimated sum of $50,000 to take care of the medical bills.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick voiced out saying that he instructed the Chairman of Enugu State Football Association and Member of the NFF Executive Committee, Hon. Chidi Ofo Okenwa to pay a visit to Christian Chukwu and get details of his challenges and what needs to be done to return him to good health.
While speaking to NFF.com Pinnick said;
“I am not in Nigeria presently but I have asked the NFF Acting President, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi to take full charge and ensure that this matter is treated promptly. It was for this kind of development that I spoke about the welfare foundation for our legends at the 2nd AITEO-NFF Awards in Lagos on 1st April 2019. The NFF would always be there to lend support to our legends in their hour of need.”
Reagan (@Wonderboy159), however, said to NFF;
“NFF forget public awareness do something about the legend Christian Chukwu, sometimes I dey ask myself weather Nigeria na country, most of our heroes and legends dey surfer while the criminals dey enjoy for that country, e better make d country change the national anthem.”
Meanwhile, according to Hugo (@EarthGod_Hugo)
“At the risk of sounding like I lack empathy, did Christian Chukwu not earn more than this while in his position as Nigeria’s head coach? What happened to all the money? Must we blame the government for everything?”
