Pre-wedding pictures can be said to be a summary of the intending couple’s courtship life, it is photography of activities relating to weddings and encompasses photographs of the couple before marriage.
The culture of pre-wedding pictures in Nigeria has become something that is now normalized.
The modern Nigeria wedding now includes activities such as bachelor’s night, bridal shower and all important pre-wedding pictures.
Harken back (to) a few decades ago, In the time of our mothers and fathers, it was an unnecessary approach to pre-wedding activities, they just take their bride to be to church and wed them.
This culture is obviously one of the many adopted western cultures, copied in recent years by millennial –Ever heard the saying too much of everything is bad?
Well the culture of Pre wedding photos is slowly losing it’s meaning in Nigeria as many Nigerian couples has turned it to a chance to display foolishness, according some twitter users.
He took to the social media platform to share the pictures which displayed the husband to be attempting to flog the bride to be with a cane as both were dressed up in high school uniform acting out a scenario where it appears the man is presumably the teacher or senior prefect and the woman the student.
Confused at the essence of the picture, Mr. Royal-Tee had to ask his followers if the pre-wedding picture was an act of ‘creativity or foolishness’.
His tweet reads:
“Pre-wedding pictures, what’s your take? Creativity or foolishness?”
His followers responded to his question with most of them saying the picture deputes foolishness.
‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ they say, but in a time when women are asking for equality and striving to be recognized at pace setters, the picture above seems to somehow degrade the bride to be.
This should have been an opportunity for them to show how much in love they are with each other but instead they showed otherwise.
Marriage is a partnership between the husband and the wife, they are to work as a team with love and patience, that is exactly what a pre-wedding picture should portray not showcase a situation where the man treats his bride as his slave.
