A few days ago, it was reported that three NYSC corpers lost their lives while 14 others were injured in a motor accident. Reacting to the incident, the DG of the National Youth Service Commission (NYSC) has called for a restriction on the movement of serving corps members.
The DG of the National Youth Service Commission, Brig.-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim has directed state coordinators of all NYSC camps to ensure corps members’ movements are guided by the scheme’s extant rules. He stated that all corps members must always get clearance from their state coordinator before traveling.
This call came as a result of the motor accident that happened on Sunday, August 18, when about 17 corps members were traveling from Katsina to Funtua to attend a wedding. Three lives were lost and 14 others were injured and are currently hospitalized. The extent of their injuries are not known at the moment and we cannot confirm if any of the injured is suffering life threatening injuries.
Hitvibz gathered that the NYSC DG, gave this Ibrahim directive while speaking to the corpers who were still recuperating at the St. Martin’s De Pors Catholic Church, Katsina, on Tuesday, August 20. He added that no corper is allowed to leave his/her primary place of assignment without clearance and permission to leave, he consoled the families of the dead and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
