Manchester United’s record signing, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial were on song as the red devils breezed past Fulham in Saturday’s lunch time kickoff.
The match started off at Craven Cottage with both sides wrestling out for supremacy until the 14th minute, when Anthony Martial put Paul Pogba through with a defence splitting pass amd the French midfielder made no mistake in putting United ahead.
Minutes later, United turned defensive into attack as they mounted a counter attack through Martial who went on a solo run– beating two Fulham players– before confidently slamming the ball past Rico. It was a sorry case for Fulham as the match appeared finished before it even went half way.
Ranieri’s men continued to struggle in the second half as things went from bad to worse for the Premier League strugglers. United were awarded a penalty for a foul on Juan Mata in the 64th minute.
Paul Pogba stepped up and registered his second goal for the afternoon. The penalty goal turned out to be the assurance Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side needed as they saw out an emphatic 3-0 victory to climb into top four of the Premier League table.
The win against the strugging Fulham side made it Manchester United’s sixth consecutive away win (a first time since May 2009). It also meant that Soljskjaer has recorded 25 points as a Premier League manager, which is a record number of points garnered by a manager after 9 games (8 wins, 1 draw) for a single club.
The Old Trafford faithfuls will be hoping things go in their favour in the match up between rivals, City and Chelsea to ensure they permanently lay claim to the fourth position.
