The Rivers State Police Command has paraded one Chinedu Nwachukwu, a 23 year old who allegedly stole a five months old baby from his mother, killed and dumped her remains in a pit in an uncompleted building at igwuruta Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Nwachukwu was paraded with over 40 other suspects arrested for different offence.
According the state Police Commissioner, Joseph Mukan, the same Nwachukwu also confessed to stealing another three months old baby from one Chinonye Queen Uzoma, killed her and sold the child to a 68 year old woman for N250,000.
Nonye had been declared missing with her child since June 2020. The suspect allegedly led the Police to the Igwututa where her decomposing body was found.
“On checking the Bus, they saw a man who was later identified as Chinedu Nwachukwu ‘m’ 23yrs with a five month old baby. On interrogation, he could not give a reasonable account of how he came by the child. He was immediately handed over to the DPO Elele Division who further transferred the child and suspect to the State CID, he said“
He noted that;
“On further interrogations at the State CID, he opened up and confessed to have stolen the baby from his mother, killed and dumped her remains in a pit in an uncompleted building at igwuruta Ikwerre LGA. Consequently, he led Police to the uncompleted building where the mother of the child was dumped. She was however evacuated alive but in an unconscious state and later taken to the Hospital for medical attention.”
Mukan further stressed that;
“The same suspect while assisting the police in our Investigation, made another startling confession on how in June 2020 in the same modus, stole a 3month old baby from one Chinonye Queen Uzoma killed her and took away the child. He again led the Police to a building in Igwuruta where the decomposing body of the woman was found. She was identified by her relations through her hair do. The suspect who revealed that after killing the victim, sold the 3 months baby girl to one Mary Ishmael ‘f’ 68yrs for #250,000 and later sold to another woman who is yet to be arrested at the cost of #350,000.”
